Why Our Trips Are Important
Our trips are important in a teen’s journey to manhood because of the following outcomes:
- Acquired outdoor skills will result in increased confidence and capability
- “Campfire Talks” discussions about Christian masculinity help teens begin to answer important questions about manhood
- Shared experience increases the bond between teen and mentor
- Greater awareness and appreciation for God’s creation
Other than transportation, all costs are covered by by Of Mountains & Men.
No experience necessary for either youth or mentor to go on our trips.
Summer: Wilderness Canoeing
Operational
Teens and mentors are led on an 8-day wilderness canoeing adventure in and around Boundary Waters, Minnesota. Boundary Waters is a 1.2 million acre Wilderness Area along the U.S.-Canadian border. No man-made structures, roads, or motorized vehicles are allowed and wildlife is abundant. Some of the best fishing in the country is found here and with over 1,000 lakes connected by more than 1,500 miles of canoe routes, it truly is a canoeing paradise.
Fall: Big Game Hunts
Operational
Teens and Mentors will experience a 4-day Big Game hunting adventure for cow elk or doe antelope. Elk and antelope hunts take place on 80,000 acres of private land leased to Tri-State Outfitters, who generously donate the tags. Base Camp includes heated wall tents with cots and electricity, hot showers/flush toilets, and hearty meals.
Winter: Snow Adventure & Survival Skills
Operational
During this 4-day trip, you’ll experience winter adventures such as snowmobiling, ice fishing, cross country skiing, snowshoeing, and constructing a snow cave at 9,960 feet. You’ll also learn survival skills and how to be comfortable doing wintertime activities.
Summer: Gator Hunt
Operational
Thanks to the generosity of Gettin Grubb Outfitters, the young men will experience the thrills of gator and hog hunting! Participants will fly into Orlando International Airport, arriving on Friday, August 8th.
