Winter: Snow Adventure & Survival Skills

Status: Operational

Thank you for your interest in the hunting trips for Of Mountains & Men! Here’s what you need to know before you apply for your youth to join us:

What Youths Will Gain From This Experience:

OMM’s Mission is to “Guide Teens Into Christian Manhood.” This trip will help the young men on their journey in 2 ways:

  1. Confidence-Producing Skills: A critical component of manhood is possessing confidence. Confidence is gained through learning valuable skills, particularly wilderness skills. Through this trip, the young men will gain the following skills
    • Snow Shelter Options
    • Build a Snow Quinzee and Sleep In It Overnight (weather permitting)
    • Ice Fishing Techniques and Skills
    • Cross Country Skiing, Snowshoeing and Navigation
    • Archery & Muzzleloader skills
    • Snowmobile Handling
  2. Campfire Talks: Throughout the trip, everyone participates in our Campfire Talks. These are biblically-based discussions centered on the book ‘Wild At Heart’ by John Eldredge. They’ll help the young men begin to answer four questions:
    • What does it mean to be a man?
    • How do I become one?
    • How do I understand what a girl/woman really is?
    • How do I become truly alive?

When: Friday, March 21st – Monday, March 24th, 2025

Base Camp: Winter Adventure and Skills will be conducted on private property and from a cabin in Angel Fire, NM. All participants will be lodged in a heated area with a hot shower and bedding. All meals are provided.

Eligibility: Youths must be a minimum of 12 years old and a maximum of 18 years old at the time of their hunt.

Cost: OMM covers nearly everything for this life-shaping experience. All equipment is provided. All main meals and snacks are provided, and we cover the cost of youth fishing licenses. The only cost is the young man’s transportation to/from the Colorado Springs airport where other young men will meet up and carpool down with an OMM board member. If the participant would like to meet in New Mexico, we will be establishing a pickup point in the town of Angel Fire within 30 minutes of base camp. Participants need only bring their clothing and personal gear. A detailed packing list will be sent to all participants.

Safety: This is paramount to OMM. Activities will be modified as weather conditions dictate.

Adult Mentors: OMM will have 3 Board Members on-site giving focused attention to help the young man deepen his skills and confidence through Winter Adventure, Campfire Talks and as needed.

Application Window: Applications will be accepted from June 1st through July 15th. We’ll notify those selected/not selected approximately at the beginning of August.
