2022 Youth Hunt

2022 was another year of explosive growth for OMM, as we nearly doubled the number of youths served along with greatly expanding the lengths of the hunts!  Past hunts consisted of a 3-day hunting adventure for 6 or fewer young men but this year we conducted two 4-day hunts in serving 11 young men!  Nearly 50 people total filled Deer Camp with laughter, exciting stories of stalks, and meaningful Campfire talks as the boys, mentors, guides and cooks all combined to make OMM’s 2022 Deer Hunt a phenomenal success!

7 of the 11 boys harvested their first deer and nearly everyone had multiple shot opportunities, as a conservative estimate of the number of deer seen each day was between 120-200 (that’s not a typo)!  As in past years the experience consisted of exciting hunting, thought-provoking Campfire Talks about Christian masculinity and life in the world of Deer Camp.  This year also featured several “firsts:”

•  A “Get To Know Ya” BBQ shortly before the hunt, which was well attended and featured ax-throwing, archery, and live music with a fiddle!
• Out of state participants coming from Texas, Minnesota, Iowa, and Wyoming!
• Worship leaders bringing their instruments and leading worship songs in the falling snow!
• The first-ever OMM Volleyball Game!
• Campfire Talks incorporating video clips from movies such as Braveheart, Gladiator, Act of Valor, etc.!
• A Colorado Parks & Wildlife Officer giving a presentation on hunting laws and ethics!
• Fierce competition in the Best Dessert Contest with cool swag for the winners!
• A concluding Campfire Presentation where every young man was presented a knife engraved with “OMM” and their name!

We’re humbled at the tremendous growth Of Mountains & Men has experienced and are so thankful for the efforts of so many.  Guides, mentors, cooks and our stellar photographer Joe all invested tremendous time, skill, and heart into these young men, an investment we’re certain is already paying off as together we help Guide Teens Into Christian Manhood.
