Deer Hunt (Oct 2026)

Status: Operational

Location: BLM Land near Craig, CO

Dates: OCT 9-12, 2026

Application Window: JAN 1 – MAR 15, 2026

Youth Age Requirements: Due to state rules, youth must be at least 12-17 years old at the time of the hunt. Only youth are allowed to hunt (i.e. no mentors)

Mentors: Each youth will have an adult male mentor. Youth can bring their mentor with them (i.e., father, relative, family friend) or, if needed, a background-checked OMM mentor will be provided. Mentor responsibilities include being a companion on the trip, participating in The Campfire Talks, and being someone the youth feel comfortable discussing Christian Manhood with.

Overview: Participants will arrive in Craig at noon on Friday, Oct. 9th, to resource tags provided by the state. Following a 45-minute drive, we’ll establish base camp on BLM land, conduct marksmanship operations,  do briefings, eat dinner, and conduct our first of three Campfire Talks. We’ll hunt all day Saturday and conduct our 2nd Campfire that night. Sunday is a repeat of Saturday, with the final Campfire Talk seeing each boy presented with a Bible and an engraved knife to symbolize that he is a warrior for Christ.

Cost: FREE! Once participants arrive at camp, OMM covers nearly all costs (housing, hunting licenses, lodging, meals, equipment, etc.). Transportation and meat-processing costs are the responsibility of the sponsor.

Safety Measures:

  • All youth must complete a state-sponsored Hunter Safety Course before their hunt
  • Extensive marksmanship practice with a heavy emphasis on safety
  • Close monitoring/supervision of firearms by the guides
  • CPR-certified OMM personnel
  • Each guide carries a 1st-aid kit

Notes:

  • We stress ethical shooting. As part of it, youth must be able to shoot a 3-inch group at 100 yards with a scoped rifle before their hunt.
  • Youth will provide their own rifle/ammunition.
  • Each youth/mentor team will have its own guide. These guides are very experienced big-game hunters. More importantly, they serve as role models for what a strong Christian man is.
  • All hunting is conducted from the guide’s truck. Participants do not need 4WD to get to base camp.
  • The guide will facilitate field dressing and transport of the animal back to camp, where it will be put on ice. Beginning Monday morning, responsibility for the meat belongs to the sponsor/mentor. We recommend taking it home with you to process it yourselves or take to a local processor.
  • All participants will sleep in heated wall tents with cots provided.
  • All meals are provided.
