This year’s trip into the Boundary Waters Wilderness Canoe Area was one of our best ever! Ten young men, accompanied by eight grown men, had a phenomenal week of fishing, canoeing, learning new skills, and discussing what it means to be a Christian man. The trip began with a day of Skills Training at a local lake outside of the wilderness area, where the young man got hands-on training in the skills they’d soon need once out in the wild: fishing skills, canoeing, first aid, water purification, setting up a tent, and navigating with a map and compass were taught, followed by a fiercely-contested canoe race! Following a night at a comfortable bunkhouse, the adventurers launched! The days that followed are hard to describe in words, and we hope the pictures give you a glimpse into the world they experienced. The finishing was phenomenal – for several young men, it was the first fish they ever caught! Walleye, smallmouth and largemouth bass, northern pike, and even a rare lake trout! Telling stories around the fire, exploring new lakes, a fire-building and primitive weapons making contest filled the week. We even conducted one of our Campfire Talks on Christmas Island in Canadian waters (so yes, we can now say that Of Mountains & Men has gone international!). These newly acquired skills improved the self-confidence of the young men as they learned they were far tougher, resilient, and capable than they had previously thought. Most importantly, however, they experienced our Campfire Talks. Held daily, these biblically based discussions about Christian Manhood helped them on the road to becoming Christian Men. Well done, men!
